The Contribution of Ski Poles to Aerodynamic Drag in Alpine Skiing
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present study was designed to determine the contribution of cross-sectional area ski poles (Sp) total aerodynamic drag during alpine skiing. At three different wind speeds in a tunnel, 10 skiers assumed typical skiing postures (high, middle, and tuck), their frontal assessed with force plate area, along that poles, determined by interactive image segmentation. data collected were utilized examine intra-subject variation Sp, effects Sp on coefficient (Cd), product Cd (Cd∙S. major findings as follows: (i) ranged from 0.0067 (tuck position) 0.0262 m2 (middle position), contributing 2.2–4.8% respectively; (ii) dependent speed high middle positions; (iii) variations 0.0018 (27.6%) tuck position 0.0072 (30.5%) position; (iv) exerted likely effect Cd∙S. extensive intra- inter-skier variability can account for much ~5% future investigations how elite optimize positioning manner reduces are warranted.

The purpose of the study was to examine potential differences between male and female alpine ski naive young people in attitudes towards alpine skiing before and after the completion of structured alpine ski school program. We included 136 ski beginners (41 women and 95 men) who anonymously filled out a previously validated 26-item Lickert scale-type questionnaire related to their attitudes tow...

With the aim of identifying the factors of alpine skiers' biomotor status in predicting their specific skills, three variable sets were used, comprised of the total of 24 measures (9 variables for assessing anthropometric characteristics, 8 variables for assessing motor abilities and 7 variables for assessing specific ski skills of alpine skiing), on a sample of 79 ski instructor candidates. Af...
متن کاملBiomechanical aspects of new techniques in alpine skiing and ski-jumping.
There have been considerable changes in equipment design and movement patterns in the past few years both in alpine skiing and ski-jumping. These developments have been matched by methods of analysing movements in field conditions. They have yielded new insights into the skills of these specific winter sports. Analytical techniques have included electromyography, kinetic and kinematic methods a...
